Research Platform for Large-scale Analysis of NETworks Netherlands (PLANET-NL)
Today’s highly connected society is held together by social, economic, technological and infrastructural networks. PLANET-NL is an academic community of expertise centered around large-scale network data analysis.
ABOUT US
PLANET-NL aims to provide researchers and practitioners with tools, expertise and collaboration opportunities for large-scale network analysis.
Interdisciplinary methods
Network science, also referred to as (social) network analysis, builds upon methods from mathematics, sociology, computer science and physics.
Computational Social Science
PLANET-NL is rooted in computational social science and seeks to maintain an academic community to share experiences, ideas and approaches.
Tooling
Network analysis at scale requires dedicated tooling to enable efficient analysis. The PLANET-NL software toolkit is free and open-source.
Collaboration
Our team has extensive expertise with large-scale network analysis, and is open to collaboration with researchers across various scientific disciplines.
Data expertise
We aim to be a knowledge hub for various large-scale network data sources, including population-scale and register-based data, as well as corporate and financial data.
Compute & Data
The PLANET-NL team has extensive experience in setting up network analysis hardware, research software and accompanying data infrastructure.
Large-scale network analysis research
Our team has been involved in a number of large-scale network analysis research projects.
Population-scale social networks
- As the PLANET-NL website is still under construction, see the website of the Population-Scale Social Network Analysis platform for details: https://www.popnet.io
Global corporate networks
- This area of expertise builds upon the success of the 2015-2019 ERC CORPNET project; see the project website for details: https://corpnet.uva.nl
- The underlying research is particularly focused on how corporate networks provide insights in transparency, power dynamics, and the social implications of corporate ownership.
